How to Install Door Jambs
Door jambs must be installed correctly, so a door opens and closes properly. We highly recommend hiring a professional to do the job for you, but to give you a general idea of the process, here's how installing door jambs work:
- Step 1: Measure the width of your doorframe and cut the top of the door jamb to size. Measure and trim the two sides, and use a nail gun to secure the top piece to the two sides.
- Step 2: Use packers to level the left-hand side of the timber door jamb.
- Step 3: Once the left-hand side is level, nail the door jamb in place. Avoid nailing near where you plan to put your hinges.
- Step 4: Nail the top and right-hand side of the door jamb to the frame.
- Step 5: Measure the thickness of your door, mark out the position of the door on the top plate when it is closed, and install the door stop onto the door jamb.
